Reverend Richard John Meredith completed his earthly journey on Monday, January 12, 2026, and rose in glory. Born in Shobdon, England in 1959 to Tom Meredith and Valerie Jinks, Richard was the middle child, nestled between Tom, Stanley, Rosie and Valerie. In 1969 they immigrated to Canada, making their home in Highland Village, Colchester County and establishing Meredith Farms.

Growing up on the farm and working in the family business, until his early 30s, Richard learned to be a jack of all trades. He helped build the barns, tended the pigs and kept the farm equipment running. In his early 30s Richard answered a call to ordained ministry in the United Church of Canada. After nine years of dedication, determination and hard work he completed his GED, received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Mary’s University and a Masters of Divinity from Atlantic School of Theology. Upon graduation he moved across the country, with his family, to begin ministry in rural Saskatchewan. He served several rural congregations until his diagnosis of Parkinson’s took him on another journey. Through it all, Richard’s life was marked by love, compassion, laughter and joy. He was a life-long learner and justice seeker, with a heart to build a world where love is lived.

At the age of 21 Richard married his soul mate and life partner, Cindy Lowe. Together, they raised four beautiful children who were his joy and life – Christine, Andrew, Megan and Olivia.

When not on the farm, studying or working in the church, Richard might be playing darts or horse shoes; fishing along the bay, the brook or from a boat; or heading out on the next adventure with his family – camping, exploring the Five Islands, clam digging, hiking or discovering the many treasures of this country. On any given day he might have a chainsaw in his hands; a hammer and nails and plans for the next thing to build; be found driving the tractor or beach combing on the Bay of Fundy.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Valerie; brother, Tom; nephew, Mitchell. Left to carry on his legacy are his wife of 45 years, Cindy; children, Christine (Holly), Andrew, Megan, Olivia (Matthew); grandchildren, Tierney, Conlinn, Finnigan, Winter; sisters, Rosie and Valerie; brother, Stanley; many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

Richard’s wish for all would be "to seek justice, love kindness and walk humbly with your God."

A celebration of life will be held 3 p.m., Friday, January 16, 2026, at First United Church, 711 Prince Street, Truro. If so desired, donations in Richard’s memory to Parkinson Canada or a charity of your choice are welcomed.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Tributes, words of comfort and memories may be shared at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
