Lillian Viola Osborne – 87, Truro, formerly of Dartmouth. With love and sadness, we share the passing of Lillian Viola Osborne that occurred on Sunday, January 11, 2026. Lillian spent her 87 years doing what she loved most, caring for her family and creating a home filled with good food, laughter, and love. She was a devoted wife and mother - kind, generous, and patient, and anyone who knew her will remember how welcome she made everyone feel.
If you were looking for Lillian, you’d usually find her in the kitchen, where some of the best family memories were made around the table. She also loved sitting on the porch with David, watching the world go by. Lillian had a soft spot for animals and had many dogs and cats over the years, each one loved like family.
Christmas was her favorite time of year. She loved seeing presents under the tree and made the holidays special with traditions like lobster on Christmas Eve, fresh fruit salad and a full breakfast Christmas morning, and a turkey dinner with her famous homemade pie. Her pie crust was the best, and her preserves were second to none.
Lillian enjoyed cooking and baking, bingo, Coronation Street, trips to Halifax Casino, reading, and doing the daily lexicon in the newspaper. She worked her entire career with Department of Finance for the Provincial Government. She also loved looking her best and would never leave the house without a stylish outfit and a nice piece of jewelry.
She never ended a call with either of her sons without saying, "Be careful in the traffic and I love you," simple phrases that showed how much she loved them.
Lillian is survived by her sister, Claudia; sons, Jeffrey (Gillian) and Timothy (Jennifer); grandsons, Liam and Caleb. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, David; parents, Clyde and Lillian (Crawford) Osborne; sisters, Martina and Pam.
The family would like to thank everyone at Cedarstone Enhanced Care, where Lillian spent her final three years. They cared for her like family, and we are so grateful for their kindness and compassion.
As Lillian wished, there will be no formal funeral. Instead, we invite you to gather with friends and family, share a meal, and celebrate a life well lived. Private interment at a later date in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, 767 Main Street, Dartmouth.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Tributes, words of comfort and memories may be shared at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
