Michael Stewart "Mike" Shaw – 63, Truro.
It is with extreme sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of
Mike on Saturday morning, February 14, 2026, at Colchester East Hants
Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, he was the son of Harry Shaw,
Truro, and the late Evelyn (Totten) Shaw.
Along with his father, Mike is survived by his wife of 42
years, Leesa (Taylor); daughter, Rebecca (Robert) Bernard; son, Andrew
(Kelsey) Shaw; granddaughter, Raelynn Bernard; adoptive daughter,
Michelle "Nickey" (Adam) Dillman; grandson, Blake; sister,
LeaAnne Joudrie; niece, Christie (Jody) Brandford; great nephews,
Silas and Gus. Along with his mother, he was predeceased by his
grandparents.
Mike was born and raised in the "mill", and being
an original "mill boy", you never knew what trouble he and
others were up too.
Mike worked for Scotsburn, Crossley and finished his career
with Canada Bread "Butternut", travelling from shore to
shore and caring for each customer like they were family. After his
medical condition progressed and he couldn’t be on the road
in the truck, he returned to school to get his Grade 12 (GED), and
graduated at NSCC with his daughter (CCA diploma) in 2009. He then
took his business course and graduated from that in
2011.
Mike has had a long hard fought battle for over 20 years. We
would like to thank the Dialysis Team at Colchester East Hants Health
Centre, Halifax Rehabilitation Centre and VON for your dedication and
going above and beyond for Mike and his family.
Mike’s family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m.,
Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at St. Paul’s Presbyterian
Church, 387 Lower Truro Road (McClures Mills). We ask that you wear
casual clothes, colourful or patterned, and if Mother Nature allows,
feel free to wear shorts! Mike would want you to be comfortable, and
he looked horrible in pants! Private interment in Bible Hill Cemetery,
41 Warren Drive, Bible Hill in the spring. If so desired, donations in
Mike’s memory to War Amps of Canada, Diabetes Canada or
Heart and Stroke Foundation are welcomed.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Tributes, words of
comfort and memories may be shared at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
