Darrell Howard Alexander MacDonald - 62, Halifax, passed away at Dartmouth General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, April 23, 2026. Born in St. Jerome, Quebec, he was the only son of Robert A. F. MacDonald and Joan S. (Spicer) MacDonald, Salmon River, Colchester County.

Darrell graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from St. Francis Xavier University in 1986. He worked for Canada Post as a letter carrier in Dartmouth for decades, retiring in September 2023. He enjoyed his work, particularly greeting his "customers" as he made his daily rounds. Darrell made many life- long friends within Canada Post who miss him dearly.

Darrell was a quietly kind and generous man, always willing to give a helping hand to family, friends and neighbours.

Deeply missing Darrell are his parents, Robert and Joan (Spicer) MacDonald, Salmon River; sisters, Alayne MacDonald (Charles O’Neil), Halifax; Lynn MacDonald (late Paul Stewart), Pleasant Grove, Prince Edward Island; nephew, Keegan O’Neil (Nicole Cleary), Halifax; niece, Adrienne O’Neil (Dylan Day), Bridgewater; grandnephew, Allistair Day, Bridgewater; grandniece, Evelyn Day, Bridgewater. Also surviving is Darrell’s former wife and good friend, Margie MacDonald, Dartmouth.

The family would like to thank the medical staff in the ICU of Dartmouth General Hospital for their outstanding care of, and compassion for, Darrell.
