Beverley Anne "Bev" Lewis - 78, Lower Sackville,
formerly of Economy, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Born in Economy, she was the only child of the late Maxwell and Helen
(Cameron) Smith.
Bev, who loved "running the roads", left her
country home for the city of Halifax as a young adult to begin her
working career and was employed by the Provincial Government for over
40 years. She resided in Lower Sackville for most of her life, however
when asked, home would always be Carrs Brook. Bev will be
best remembered for her infectious laughter and being on the move. She
faced almost every life situation with a laugh, believing everything
happened for a reason so no need for worry.
Being the heart of her family, she was happiest when the
house was full - and her door was always open to all. Her home was a
place where people gathered to chat, enjoy a meal, and for some, a
place to stay as long as they needed. If she wasn’t at a
dance, playing bingo, or visiting family and friends, she would be
cooking, baking or shopping to share with others. When the
grandkids were born they became her pride and joy. She was with them
every step of the way, from walks to the playgrounds and countless
sleep-overs, to cheering them on in hockey rinks, baseball/soccer
fields, concerts and ceremonies. At Nanny’s house there was
always music playing, the smell of freshly made treats, lots of love,
and of course, an abundance of laughter.
Bev was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Syd. She will
be greatly missed by her two daughters, Kim, Hammonds Plains; Nicole,
Lower Sackville; grandchildren, Sydney, Max, Jacob,
Riley.
Mom - until we meet again - we will keep the music on, the
laughter going, and do our best to keep the cookie jar
full.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June
6, 2026, at Economy Cemetery, 3600 Highway 2, Economy, Reverend Marty
Clark-Ettinger officiating. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
A reception in the front room at Economy Recreation Centre will be
held following the service for a light lunch prepared by members of
the UCW from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. If so desired, donations in
Bev’s memory to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or Economy
Cemetery are welcomed.
