Shannon Elizabeth Boomer – 74, Truro, passed away
peacefully, with her cousin Naida at her side, on Monday, June 1,
2026, at The Mira Long Term Care Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, she was
a daughter of the late Fred and Dorothy (Baird) Boomer.
Shannon received her B.A. Honours (Psychology) from Dalhousie
University in 1975 and Masters Business Administration from
The University of Western Ontario in 1979. She worked with NB Tel and
then Bell Aliant. She was an avid quilter and made many beautiful
quilts that many will cherish for years to come. She enjoyed pickling
and preserving, reading, keeping up with current events and summers at
the cottage in Caribou with family and friends.
Shannon was the last surviving member of her immediate
family. She is survived by her nephew, Bradley (Stephanie) Boomer,
Fredericton, New Brunswick; great niece, Brianna Boomer, Moncton, New
Brunswick; great nephews, Alan Boomer and Liam Calhoun, Fredericton,
New Brunswick; many cousins and friends.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her sister,
Cindy (Hubert) Pickard.
A very special thank you is extended to Wayne Chafe, for his
dedication shown to Shannon during her illness.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Shannon’s
family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, June 7, 2026.
Interment will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Waterside
Cemetery, R Grant Road, Waterside, Pictou County. If so desired,
donations in Shannon’s memory to Canadian Cancer Society are
welcomed.
