Joan Adella Lockhart - 88,
Truro, passed
away peacefully on Saturday, June 13, 2026, surrounded by family, at
Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Malagash, she was
the daughter of the late James and Kathleen (Carty) Aitchison. Along
with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Edwin
"Ed" Lockhart; youngest son, Allison; sisters, Shirley
McGrath, Joyce Wills, Deanna Pace.
Joan was a founding member of The Attic Painters and in her
later years taught line-dancing. Joan had a passion for gardening and
loved spending hours tending to her herb and flower gardens. She
served in the Women’s Work Committee at First United Church
and provided countless meals and sweets for the church community and
Men’s Group.
Joan will be deeply missed by her children, Michael (Cyndi),
Pamela (Michael) Gilroy, Jennifer (Gary) Wallace; grandchildren,
Christopher, Andrew, Stephanie (Avery), Jeffrey (Jenna), Laura,
Jillian (Marcel), Shaun (Teresa); ten great-grandchildren were among
her greatest joys, and they will carry her memory with them forever.
She is also survived by her sister, Linda MacQuarrie.
Joan will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews,
neighbours and friends.
The family would like to thank the palliative care staff and
doctors at the CEHHC for their care and compassion.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall - Varner
Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where the funeral service will
be held 2 p.m., Saturday, June 20, 2026, Reverend Cathie Crooks
officiating. Interment in St. John’s Cemetery, Scotsburn,
Pictou County. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s
memory to Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice are
welcomed.
