Rita Elaine McGuire – 86, Truro, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Dort’s Cove, Guysborough County, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Alice (Dort) Dort.

Rita was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Truro. She was a mischievous jokester, loved to dance and sing, and in earlier years, played guitar. She also loved to bake and cook; even though she had the recipe book open, she rarely followed the ingredient list or instructions!

Rita is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Gary; daughter, Kristal (Robert "Bob") Levernois, Alton; granddaughter, Amanda (Stephen) Julien, Middle Sackville; great granddaughter, Jada Julien; stepchildren, Teresa McGuire (Sandy), April Pelton (Mark), Corry McGuire (Debbie); step grandchildren, Rebecca, Amy, Michelle; siblings, Mabel Bond, Guysborough; brother-in-law, Sylvester Jamieson, Guysborough; several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Frederick (Marion) Dort; Aubrey (Myrtis) Dort, Wilbur (Verna) Dort, Sylvia Jamieson, Hazel (Wayne) George, Violet (George) Bardall, Minnie (Luke) Pellerine, Ruby (Avard) Luddington.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Rita’s family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2026. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, June 25, 2026, at St John's Anglican Church, 25 Church Street, Truro, The Reverend Lori Ramsey officiating. (Please use the link door between the church and hall to access the church.) Reception will follow in Kaulbach Hall. Interment in Bible Hill Cemetery at a later date. If so desired, donations in Rita’s memory to Intensive Care Unit (CEHHC) are welcomed.
