Percy Franklin Cox - 95, Truro, formerly of Salmon River. With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Percy Cox on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Percy was born in West St. Andrew’s, Nova Scotia, and was a son of the late Frank and Olive (Wallace) Cox.
Percy is survived by his children, Tony Cox (Janet), Merrill Cox (Shelley), Mark Cox (Julie), Royce Cox (Tracy); grandsons, Chris and Connor; brothers, Avon Cox, Lorne Cox (Bonnie). Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Donna (Dean); brothers, Gerald Cox ,Lester Cox, John Cox in infancy.
Percy was a graduate of Provincial Normal College in Nova Scotia and taught in a one room schoolhouse in Indian Harbour for two years. He married his sweetheart Donna in 1958, and they settled in Truro to raise their four sons. After earning his Chartered Accountant Certificate, he worked as an accountant for Sproule Lumber in Valley until he retired in 1989.
Percy loved to play cards and was part of various card and crib groups for much of his adult life. He enjoyed attending the local dances with Donna well into their senior years. He had a green thumb and grew a large garden each summer, supplying much of what they canned at the end of the growing season.
‘The Boys’ have wonderful memories of their annual summer vacations travelling near and far with Percy behind the wheel hauling the family camper; lots of stories there!
Percy was energetic, spry and limber until very recently. He was a man ‘on the move’ and preferred that to sitting idle; always wanting to be ‘on to the next thing!’ One of these things was his regular coffee shop socials; he was welcomed by a lovely group of regulars who offered to take him when he could no longer do so on his own. Percy will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
The family would like to thank the Colchester East Hants Health Centre staff involved in his care and a special thanks to the Victorian Order of Nurses for their exemplary in-home care as well as the staff at Wallace Retirement Living for providing residential assistance and letting family know about anything of concern.
Private graveside service at Crossroads Cemetery, 120 Salmon River Road, Valley, will be held at a later date. If so desired, donations in Percy’s memory to a charity of choice are welcomed.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Tributes, words of comfort and memories may be shared at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
