Winston Brown – 83, Salmon River, passed away
peacefully on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at Colchester East Hants Health
Centre, Truro. Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late Alpheus
and Evelyn (Rose) Brown.
Winston was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic
Church, Truro. After completing basic training at Camp Borden in
Ontario, he served with Royal Canadian Dragoons at CFB Gagetown, New
Brunswick; he was honourably discharged in 1964. He also
worked for a period as a miner in Cape Breton, and then moved to Truro
in 1973, where he was employed with Crossley Karastan until his
retirement.
Winston was a homebody who kept a meticulous lawn and garden.
He enjoyed spending time outside and fishing. An avid baseball fan, he
watched and cheered on his favourite teams; he volunteered as a coach
and umpire at Victoria Park in his younger years. Ever the handyman
and tinkerer, his family and friends will miss being able to bring
things to him to repair, and seeing the new things that he built and
created.
Winston is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Alfreda
(Hare); children, Heather (Darrell) Fitzgerald, Bible Hill; Winston
(Martha) Brown, Brookside; Wayne Brown, North River; grandchildren,
