Gordon Leo Gibbons - 42, Halifax, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 in Halifax. Gordon was born in Scarborough, Ontario.
He grew up in Truro, and as with most things in his life, took the path less travelled. He was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at age two and navigated a life requiring a 24/7 balancing act with meticulous planning. He became a student of life and completed the Adult Learning program at NSCC to prove his capabilities to himself.
Most recently, Gordon worked at Costco in Bayers Lake in Club Demonstration Services. To his coworkers, Gordon was the undisputed voice and heartbeat of the sales floor. He was a gifted conversationalist who always had everyone 'sold' on the products he demonstrated. He ruled the morning pre-shift meetings with a sharp, sarcastic wit, never hesitating to call things as they were. This was always followed by a laugh that made it impossible to stay mad. His vibrant presence and playful honestly will be deeply missed.
Gordon had many hobbies and interests in music and in nature. He played the guitar, bass and other instruments, most often by picking them up and playing by ear. He loved the outdoors and was known to walk almost everywhere. He also found peace regularly on the open water in his kayak.
Gordon will be missed immensely by his mother, Fern Rushton and stepfather, Malcolm Rushton; sisters, Christina and Suzie; brothers, Barry and Justin; along with a large extended family that includes several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Gilbert Gibbons.
A small service will be held for family and close friends at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Truro Heights United Baptist Church, 343 Truro Heights Road, Truro Heights, Pastor Brian O. Johnston officiating. All others who wish to honor his memory are warmly welcomed. Reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to Diabetes Canada are welcomed.
