DUVAL, L. Carle … 83, Truro, passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at home. Born January 11, 1924 in Saint John, New Brunswick, he was a son of the late Foster and Janet (Carle) Duval.

Carle received his education at Saint John High School (1941); Acadia University (B.A. …1951 & B. Ed. 1952) and also received his Master of Arts from University of New Brunswick in 1960. His career began as a teacher at Central Kings Rural High School (1952-1954); principal at Stewiacke School (1954-1959); vice principal at South Colchester Rural High School (1960-1961) and finally at the Nova Scotia Teachers College (1961-1987) from where he retired and was Director of Student Teachers during his last 15 years there. He was a veteran of the Second World War and served with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps (RCAMC) from 1943-1947. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Truro, where he was a former member of the choir; past President and current member of Royal Canadian Legion, Stewiacke Branch # 70; past Master of the Stewiacke Masonic Lodge # 98 (AF & AM); past District Deputy Grand Master of Colchester District; member of the Kiwanis Golden Club and was one of the founding members and a volunteer at the Little White Schoolhouse. Carle met with “the boys” daily at the Glengarry. He was a wonderfully happy man who enriched and blessed the lives of his extended family.

Carle is survived by his sister, Dorothy (Murray) Beesley, Saint John, New Brunswick; brother, Donald Duval, Fredericton, New Brunswick; sisters-in-law, Mora (Bob) Oxley, St. John’s, Newfoundland; Jean Duplisea (Husband, Dupe, deceased), Halifax; brothers-in-law, John Hugh (Sheila) Ross, Halifax; Judge Peter (Mary-Jane) Ross, Sydney; Norman Ross, Sydney Mines; several nieces, nephews, extended family and a wide circle of friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Florence Ross; sister, Roberta (Ivan) Green; brother, George; nephew, Bruce Green.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Carle’s family will receive friends from 2-4, 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2008. Masonic Lodge Tribute Service will be held 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2008, followed by the Royal Canadian Legion Stewiacke Branch # 70 Tribute Service at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2008 in First Baptist Church, Prince Street, Truro, Reverend Andy Crowell officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Spring interment will be held in Robie Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carle’s memory to Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, SPCA or Colchester Food Bank Association are welcomed.
