MacLELLAN: James Alexander, 84, Truro, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2008 in the Camp Hill Veteran’s Hospital, Halifax. Born September 29, 1923, he was a son of the late Charles J. and Mary (MacIsaac) MacLellan, Dunvegan, Inverness County. He was a veteran of the 2nd World War, volunteering for active duty in the army in 1942, serving with the 1st Canadian Division for four years including the Italian Campaign and throughout Northwest Europe in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, also volunteering for the Far East. He was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University, BSC, BED, and a teacher for 31 years. He was a flying officer, teaching navigation to Air Cadets in Waverly, during the summers of 1957 to 1964 and later taught Army Cadets. His first language was Gaelic and was proud of his Scottish Heritage. He loved his Cape Breton music, his father being a violin player. He is survived by his wife, Effie (MacIsaac) MacLellan; son, Charles, Truro; daughter, Kathleen Roy and husband Glenn; grandchildren, Hannah and Hayden; sister, Barbara MacDonald, Toronto; several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Catherine Bourne, Elizabeth Timlin; brothers, John Angus, Alex and Joseph, Hughie in infancy. Thank you to all the staff at Camp Hill Veteran’s Residence, for the excellent care. Visitation will be held 7-9pm Wednesday, January 9, and a legion tribute service 7pm Wednesday, conducted by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 26, Truro, both in the Mattatall Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. The late Mr. MacLellan will then be transferred to the Inverness Funeral Home, 45 MacIssac Street, Inverness, from where visitation will be held 7-9pm Thursday, January 10. Funeral mass will be held 11am Friday, January 11, from St. Margaret of Scotland Roman Catholic Church, Broad Cove, Inverness County, with Father Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Interment will follow in the Broad Cove Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
