Adelaide Shirley MacLeod - 86, Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at Cedarstone. Born in Moncton, New Brunswick, on April 24, 1925, she was the youngest daughter of the late Lorne and Helena (Steeves) Colpitts.

As a young girl she traveled with her parents and especially enjoyed a trip to England and France. Adelaide studied music at Acadia University and then came home to work in the family business, Colpitts the Stationer. Family was very important to Adelaide and she had many happy memories of times spent with her cousins. After she was married she devoted her time to her husband and children. She enjoyed traveling, including many family camping trips. Adelaide volunteered many hours with various groups in her church, often sharing her gift of music, especially with children. Adelaide had a kind and gentle spirit and a very dry sense of humor.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Karen (Kent) MacLeod, Truro, Nova Scotia; her sons, Reverend Lorne MacLeod, St. George, New Brunswick; Grant MacLeod, Saint John, New Brunswick. She was the much-loved grandmother to Lindsey, Sarah, James and Daniel MacLeod. She is also survived by several members of her extended family. Along with her parents, Adelaide was predeceased by her husband, Everett MacLeod; brother, Rolfe (Marguerite) Colpitts; sisters, Clara Maude in infancy; Eileen Colpitts.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Adelaide’s family will receive friends from 10 … 10:45 a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2011, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m., Reverend Clair MacLeod officiating. Reception to follow. Interment will be at a later date in Dundas Community Cemetery, PEI. In lieu of flowers, donations in Adelaide’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, St. James Presbyterian Church or a charity of choice.
