Singer,
Orie Douglas – 92, of Truro passed away peacefully on Sunday
evening June 15, 2014 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre with
his loving family at his side. Born on February 20, 1922 in
Shubenacadie, he was a son of the late Jennie Taylor and lived all his
life in Salmon River. Orie was a devoted employee of Spencer Brothers
and Turner Ltd. for over 40 years in the shipping department. Not one
to sit idle, he liked keeping busy. He especially loved his cottage at
Five Houses where he and his wife spent many happy summers and made
many friends. He was a member of First United Church, Truro.
Orie is
survived by daughter, Shirley Creelman (Wayne), Valley; special
grandchildren, Scott (Tracey); Michelle Barnhill (Kyle), all of
Halifax. He especially loved his great grandsons, Jack, Luke, Mark,
and precious little Ethan. He is also survived by sisters, Phyllis
LeBlanc, New Hampshire, USA; Dorothy Miller, California, USA; many
nieces and nephews. Orie was predeceased by his loving wife, Isabel
(Millen); daughter, Wendy; brothers, Keith Taylor, Laurie Taylor,
Wilfred Taylor, Lou Singer; sister, Kaye Singer.
Arrangements have been entrusted to
Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro,
where visitation will be held from 1-2 pm with funeral service to
follow at 2 pm Wednesday, June 18, 2014, Reverend Valerie Kingsbury
officiating. Reception to follow and interment in Watson
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victorian Order
of Nurses. The family would like to thank Dr. Neil Bowers for his care
over the years and to the VON for their wonderful care and compassion
for the past three months.
